The Mystery of the Midnight Noise: Part Two

After a night of suspense, and questioning my own sanity, the mystery has finally been solved. Was it a ghost? No. A rabid raccoon? Also no. A long-forgotten, battery-drained toy suddenly coming back to life? Close.

It was, in fact, a Paw Patrol watch.

Yes, you read that right. A tiny, plastic, seemingly innocent children’s watch featuring Chase, the ever-enthusiastic police pup, had been the source of our late-night wake-up call.

Let’s rewind. After failing to locate the source of the unholy noise in the dead of night, I went back to bed, but not before giving my wife a detailed report of absolutely nothing. I completely forgot about this experience until I heard it again the next day.

A distorted, robotic voice called out from beneath the couch: “PAW Patrol to the rescue!” But this was no cheerful call to action. This was a glitchy, nightmarish version—like Chase himself had been through some things and was now calling for backup from the depths of the underworld.

Upon further inspection, I discovered the culprit. My toddler’s Paw Patrol wristwatch had somehow wedged itself between the cushions, its buttons being sporadically pressed by who-knows-what, triggering its garbled, horror-movie-worthy sounds in the dead of night.

Mystery solved. No ghosts, no wild animals—just a piece of children’s merchandise designed to haunt tired parents at 2 a.m.

So, if you ever find yourself woken up by an unholy noise in the middle of the night, don’t panic. Don’t assume the worst. Just check under the couch.

(P.S. If your child absolutely must have a Paw Patrol watch, make sure it has an off switch.)
