Some Sundays are made for relaxation. This was not one of those Sundays.
The Snow Removal Workout
We woke up to four inches of fresh snow, which meant only one thing: shoveling. Nothing like a morning cardio session disguised as manual labor. I took primary responsibility for shoveling while my wife entertained the kids. Occasionally the kids wanted to “help,” which mostly involved them tossing snow back onto the freshly cleared driveway. Progress was questionable, but at least they were entertained.
Sledding: Fun or Survival Challenge?
After we finally conquered the driveway, it was time for sledding. Because why wouldn’t we voluntarily return outside in the cold after just shoveling ourselves free from it? The kids were beyond excited, which gave us just enough motivation to pack up and head to the nearest hill.
Sledding with toddlers is equal parts fun and a test of parental reflexes. One second, they’re beaming with joy; the next, they’re face-first in the snow, demanding a snack. Somehow, we made it through an hour of climbing, sliding, and wiping noses before calling it a success and heading home.
Super Bowl Party: Toddler Edition
The Super Bowl is supposed to be about snacks, commercials, and football. Our version? Making buffalo chicken dip with a KitchenAid mixer (life-changing, by the way), chasing toddlers who refused to sit still for even one play, and pausing every 10 minutes to clean up a spill.
We also cracked open a bottle of wine, thinking we’d unwind a bit. Spoiler: we didn’t finish it. By halftime, bath time took priority, and bedtime wasn’t far behind. As the game raged on, we were already tucked in by 9:30 p.m., blissfully unaware of the final score.
The Takeaway
Was it exhausting? Absolutely. Would we do it all again? Without question. These chaotic Sundays are what make parenting memorable. And if there’s one lesson from the day, it’s this: get yourself a KitchenAid for shredding chicken—it’s a game changer.
